Our Commitment To the Breed

Scott is a second generation Poodle owner while I had Great Danes. In 1983 when my last Great Dane moved on to another life with angel wings, Scott suggested that we get a Poodle.

We went to our local kennel club show in southern California to watch Standard Poodles and to meet breeders. It was there that we found a breeder who had a litter of young puppies. We visited her home many times and when the puppies were ready to go to their new homes we left with Calvin, our first show dog. Although Calvin didn't turn out to be what we wanted in the way of a show dog, we were blessed by his faithful and loyal companionship until the day he said good-bye to us at 13 years of age. Subsequently we returned to Calvin's breeder to hopefully select a second show prospect which turned out to be Brie and we were then hooked on showing. That is when Cabernet Standard Poodles began.

After 25 plus years of being involved with the breed and all that it has given us, Scott and I both feel that it is important to "give back." Our way of "giving back," in the dog world has been to donate funding for poodle rescue and disease research in poodles, participating in dog clubs at both a local and national level, and helping with breeder referral and poodle rescue. Scott has served on the Poodle Club of America board for ten years as treasurer and AKC delegate. I am now volunteering as Breeder Referral and Corrrespondind Secretary for Poodle Club of America. I also serve on the board for Poodle Club of America Rescue Foundation.
